Angela Henry, Freshman
Trinity Williams was introduced to basketball at a young age because her mother played basketball in college and also coached. Formerly, she lived in Washington, D.C. For many years, Trinity was put into basketball summer camps to learn the basics on how to shoot, pass, and be part of a team. As she matured, Trinity was put into more intense and advanced basketball camps. When she was in middle school, her mother was an intense, but inspirational and encouraging coach for one year. Because her mother made sure she had the basics down first, Trinity was able to accomplish her goals and become an incredible basketball player.
Trinity and her team have been playing very well this year. They are about to accomplish another goal by going to leagues and districts, which has been goals for the team since the start of the season. Trinity seems like she was a natural born leader because when she first started basketball, and did not know half of the things that they were doing in practice, she was able to learn more about basketball and further her skills. Last year, every game had a different team captain, but this year Trinity was captain for the whole year. When Trinity was a junior, she was four points away from meeting her goal of scoring a 1,000 points, but then Covid-19 hit. It was a devastating time because she did not know if there was going to be a basketball season the next year. She was very grateful to have the opportunity to achieve the goal that has been a dream of hers for years. In Trinity’s own words she said, “It was such a huge relief off my shoulders, like all I ever wanted to do in that school was score my 1,000 points.”
Trinity has come a long way to achieving that goal. When Trinity graduates from Palisades High School, she has committed to play Division 1 basketball at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Trinity will be missing high school basketball, but she is ready to be moving up, have more competition, and learn different styles of basketball. She is looking to get into the Women’s National Basketball League when she gets older. Of course, as the years go on and more doors of opportunity are opening, Trinity has another goal of her own. Her ultimate goal is to win a championship. Despite the obstacles, Trinity is on her way to challenge herself to follow the path that she believes in.
