Trump's State Visit to the United Kingdom

Liam Riexinger, Freshman

President Donald Trump arrived in the United Kingdom on June 3rd, 2019. His visit already started out on bad terms with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. Trump referred to the Mayor as a “stone cold loser,” which already made him lose popularity amongst the citizens of London. When President Trump arrived in the United Kingdom, he was escorted to the church where they received a blessing. Afterwards they were sung to by a boy’s choir. Trump and his First Lady were given a tour of Westminster Abbey. After the tour of Westminster, the Trumps will head to Clarence House where they will be joined by Prince William and Camilla to have tea. President Trump is going to be speaking with the United Kingdom about affairs between the United States no doubt, but his attention will mostly be aimed towards the United Kingdom and the European Union. Theresa May, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom stepped down after not being able to deliver what the British people desired: to be separated from the European Union. Theresa May tried for three hard years but could not pull through. Many citizens fear however that the replacement of Theresa May will cause a huge disruption within the chances of Brexit. President Trump explains that by breaking away from the European Union, the United Kingdom’s economy would most likely plummet. The $50,000,000,000 divorce bill that the United Kingdom would have to pay to the European Union to try to complete Brexit would pale in comparison to the costs it would face and the detrimental plummet of the economy. The European Union officials were impressed with Theresa May and how hard she squeezed the EU to try and complete Brexit. However, it is said that they disapprove of Nigel Farage, who Trump suggests to send to Brussels to negotiate. According to CNN, it says it would be the, “quickest way to collapse negotiations.”
