Liv Knecht and Ang Henry, Freshman
As the school year is coming to an end, so many things have happened with the Covid restrictions. If you were curious about what the teaching staff has thought while teaching this year, you’ve come to the right place. We interviewed eight teachers for a series of small interviews about this year.
Mrs. Gorely (9th Grade English Teacher)- Our very own Mrs. Gorely has said that with the small-time she has been back, she says that it’s somewhat difficult to teach some students with masks on. Her stress levels have gone up somewhat with trying to keep the online students involved. Google Meets is something that Mrs. Gorely will be using in the years to come.
Mrs. Mednis (Guidance Counselor Assistant)- In Mrs. Mednis’ experience, using Google Meets has definitely been a lifesaver for talking to students while they are at home. She has also stated that even with the hectic COVID restrictions, her stress levels have stayed the same. She is also looking forward to going back to a hopeful normal year next year.
Mrs. Shaffer (Math Teacher)- Mrs. Shaffer said that using technology that was provided this year has helped to maintain teaching the students well. Mask wearing hasn’t affected her teaching, although it is harder to see everyone’s facial expressions. Using Canvas has also helped with online assignments. Mrs. Shaffer is hoping that there will be a normal year next year.
Mrs. Hornburg (Librarian)- Teaching this year has been so much different for Mrs. Hornburg because she has been helping out students and teachers a lot more this year. She likes to help students and anyone in need. Her stress levels, like most teachers, have gone up dealing with the changes this year.
Mrs. LaFlamme (Biology Teacher)- She states that this year has been a challenge, but thanks to the technology that we have, it is still super helpful in teaching and assigning assignments. Her use of Canvas is again something that will be carried on to the next year. Additionally, her stress levels have gone up this year. She is looking forward to having a normal school year again.
Mr. Chaban (Music Teacher)- Teaching music this year was a challenge for our music teacher this year. Without being able to have full rehearsals in person, it was harder to sing. Besides the small inconveniences, the music program has been a success. Mr. Chaban has said that his stress levels have gone up slightly with having to learn new techniques to deal with the changes that Covid has brought to us.
Mr. Antoni (Social Studies Teacher)- Mr. Antoni says that this year has been a different atmosphere with all the students wearing masks, as well keeping track of kids online. Using Canvas and Google Meets is something that Mr. Antoni will be using in the years to come. His stress levels stayed the same.
Mr. McGovern (Social Studies Teacher)- He told us that this year has been very difficult with balancing the needs between the online students and in-school students. The Canvas course is something that himself and the students know how to use very well. He is looking forward to having a normal school year again. His stress levels have additionally gone up.
Thank you to all of our teachers for sparing some of their time and giving us their opinions. Many of the teachers have the same feelings about Covid, including the same likes and dislikes. Some of them decided to carry over useful technology, such as Canvas and Google Meets, for next year as well.
