It's Spirit Week!

Rita Detweiler, Senior

Time to get your school spirit on with a nice pair of comfy pajamas and perhaps a pillow if you can get away with it. Students are coming in wearing pjs from fuzzy animal onesies to parading in colorful robes. Ash Foster thought outside the box and dragged a mattress to school to enjoy Pajama Day. Riley Hilferty is all wrapped up in her embroidered robe for the day for she believes that ¨PJ day is a great way to show school spirit while also feeling as comfortable as possible. I hope to see this tradition continue even though I will no longer be participating in it after this year.¨ Hilferty is in her senior year of high school so she is fully ready to show off her school spirit before college, and get some very appreciated nap time.

It's double the trouble with students coming into school in matches and sets. We go together day is full of students coming together and showing their creativity off with eccentric outfits. Students were running around with themes like seasons, nerds, and one pair came in with glamorous clothes and high heels. Madison Nastasi and Evelyn Keogh are juniors who enjoyed the fun of coming up with their costumes for this wild day. ¨We didn't exactly know what we wanted to do but when we went shopping we found this and thought it was perfect, and we added the tutus to add something interesting to our outfits!¨ The pair had dressed up as Minnie and Mickey mouse with sparkling tutus as a bonus for the day.

Palisades takes a trip back in time on Wednesday with students walking in from a variety of time periods. Hippies roamed the school with bright tie-dye shirts and flower crowns while others had poodle skirts or leather greaser jackets. Laura Heinz is a transfer student from Germany, so Spirit Week was a very intriguing event to her. The senior had decided to dress up like the 80s with a zebra print suit and was rocking the outfit well. Heinz said “the day was really fun and I enjoy dressing up for the days”. She may not have been in Palisades long, but she has the strong school spirit.

The day is full of color as students begin to hype up for the pep rally, wearing the bright colors of their grade. Usually blue is the senior's color and sophomores usually wear green. However, this year the school pays tribute to Abby Stauffer and Emma Bryan by wearing yellow and orange to honor the students. Lilly Eusterbrock is a freshman in Palisades, so her grade color is green. This week was her first experience with how Palisades' students get hyped up for homecoming and overall she found it to be very fun. Finding clothes that are green tend to be hard for some students, but Eusterbrock found it ¨pretty easy¨ to gather some green for the day. Her wrists are covered with bracelets and Eusterbrock was wearing a poofy green tutu with a quirky headband. She can't wait for tomorrow to show off some more school spirit and to witness the pep rally.

A flood of gold and purple is everywhere at Palisades for the final day of spirit week. Students had painted their faces with purple and yellow and some threw glitter around throughout the day. From simply wearing a purple and yellow shirt to walking down the hall with a cape and a scepter, the students of Palisades were showing off their school spirit. Amanda Zaner is a senior who had experienced four years of spirit week. She stated “overall it is a fun week of school spirit, but I personally don't go all out” and enjoyed showing her school spirit in a quiet way by wearing a purple jersey with galaxies on it. She doesn’t need to dress over the top to show off some spirit as she enjoys the pep rally for the last day of spirit week.
