What is the Career Pathway Program?
The Career Pathway Program is frequently discussed with the school counselors. This program helps students at Palisades to schedule more elective or core classes that will allow students to get experience and education in ways other than common Math, Science, Social Studies and English. The programs are developed and specific within the different pathways. As a whole, the classes are provided to help students prepare for their future and help students be sure that they excel in their desired placement.
Business Pathway
The Business and Technology Pathway helps students get an introduction to this specific career. The classes that are available within the business pathway allow students to explore a career that is divided into two categories: Accounting and Finance or Marketing and Media.
Within the Accounting and Finance branch of the options, students are scheduled for classes such as Business Concepts, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Economics, and Financial Literacy.
The Marketing and Media classes consist of Business Concepts, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship and TV/Video classes. Both of the categories offer more advanced courses including Journalism and Statistics classes, and there are also college courses available.
Educational Career Pathway
The Educational Pathway is designed for students who are interested in elementary or secondary education. The pathway is broken down into required classes and elective classes. The required classes include: Statistics, Level 3 of Spanish, German, or French, Global Issues Seminar, Multimedia Seminar, and high grades in the English department. The elective classes are not required but are still offered and recommended. Elective classes include: Advanced Placement German, Spanish, or French, Business Seminar, Advanced Placement Computer Science, Drawing and Painting Two-dimensional Design, Graphic Communications, and many more.
Engineering and Design Career Pathway
The Engineering and Design Career Pathway prepares students for post-secondary education that will lead them into an engineering, engineering technology, or design career. The courses are split up into categories of either Design and Engineering. Engineering is broken down into courses that revolve around math, including Statistics, Algebra, and Physics. Other introductory classes to engineering are offered at Palisades. The design pathway requires art classes such as Drawing and Painting, 3D Design, and Studio Arts.
Global Studies Pathway
The Global Studies Pathway prepares students and educates them about the importance of the global community. Students in the pathway focus on excelling in a language that is provided (Spanish, German, or French). Students work each year to complete one level in a class and then take a seminar to prepare them more for college-like courses in their desired language career.
Medical Career Pathway
The Medical Career Pathway is filled with different special opportunities that allow students to get a close up interaction within the medical field. In the medical career pathway, students are given opportunities to visit hospitals and get an experience with those that are in the field. They complete key areas of focus such as prerequisites, corequisites, core classes, electives, and field experience. This program prepares students for college and a medical career itself. The main courses include Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Physics, Chemistry, and Statistics. The hands-on experience and engaging classes help each student work their way to a desired career.
