PHS Track and Field Update

Angela Henry, Freshman

It’s been a year and a couple of months since Covid-19 has struck us and so much has already changed. Sports are not the same anymore. You now have to walk around with a mask above your nose and stay six-feet apart from people. While you are doing any type of sport, you must have a mask on at all times. As a track runner it is very difficult to wear a mask and stay six-feet away from people because I am constantly running with people and my mask is always falling down. When you are at a track meet, you are allowed to take off your mask while running, but when you are done with your race you must put your mask back on. It is not the same as track from last year, but it is a little better because we are having a full track season instead of two weeks of it. While you are practicing on the track, inside, and in the weight room, you must always have your mask on because you are around a lot of people. It is hard to stay six-feet apart while competing in track and field because you are always running with or near someone. After about four weeks of being on the track team, it is getting easier. Sometimes during track practice I have a sudden urge to take off my mask. When I have that urge, I just walk away from people to be myself and take my mask off away from people. Track is very different because of Covid-19, but this team is stronger than a virus, and we win as a team. We will continue to follow all of the rules with Covid-19 and work with each other. Covid-19 can not stop this track team.
