Second Period Pep Rally Basketball Games

Updated: Nov 21, 2019

Ike Aherne, Senior

Spirit week is a time that everyone looks forward to, from theme days and crazy outfits in the hallways to the gym where the band plays. Then, with our community bonfire we celebrate every facet of our school. However, when many Palisades students think of spirit week, they think of joining the whole school in the gym playing the class basketball games. This is a favorite to competitive students, who support their class on the court or cheering in the stands. As always, the seniors faced off against the freshman, while the juniors took on the sophomores.

The classic senior vs. freshman game went as expected, with the seniors playing good defence and excelling offensively. Key senior player, Bobby Snyder, did well from the three point line, while Pat DeLabar kept it exciting in the end with a large slam dunk. Ike Aherne also did well versus the freshman, scoring a large amount of the senior points. The game’s outcome was decided from the start, with the freshman having some talent but not enough size and gamesense to prevent a senior victory.

The second game of the day pitted the sophomores and juniors. The beginning of the game was low scoring-wise, since both teams were trying to find their offencive footing. However, once the juniors clicked, it was all over for the sophomores. The juniors’ talented team included Brandon Fox, Zach Duke and Trinity Williams, arguably some of the best ballers in the school. The sophomores had trouble scoring and were hard pressed to defend the juniors offensive assault. The smooth passing and team play from the juniors spurred their team on to victory.

In the culmination of the class-versus-class basketball games, which decided which class would move on to play the faculty, the juniors and seniors faced off. Unlike their previous game, the seniors faced tough defense from the juniors, and the seniors were held to under twenty points. The juniors took advantage of their team’s offensive opportunities and the subpar defence by the seniors to take the lead by ten after the third substitution, and the seniors could not come back in time. In an exciting morning of basketball, the juniors took home the win.
