The Second Half of the School Year is Approaching, Why Not Look Back?

Coleman Poster, Junior

Many things have happened during the first half of this year, so let’s recap the things that have occurred before we move onto the next half.

August 30th 2021 marked the beginning of this school year. Then, September marked the beginning of Suicide Prevention Month, along with the beginning of football season. Many of the players, however, thought the season didn’t turn out well.

October was filled with many events, such as both the soccer and field hockey teams reaching district playoffs. The first week of October marked Palisades’ spirit week. From October 4th to the 8th, fun activities and themed days occurred. Day one was decades day. Students and staff wore clothes in the theme of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Day two was celebrity look-alike day. Once again, teachers and students dressed up to a certain theme, this time being of course celebrities. Day three was duo day, in which two students or two teachers wore matching clothes. Day four was class color day; seniors were red, juniors were blue, sophomores were green, and freshmen were orange. The final day was purple and gold day; that day would include the pep rally. Other events included Columbus Day, Fossil Day, Reptile Awareness Day, and of course Halloween.

November was when Native American Heritage Month occurred, but other holidays were also celebrated. Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Hanukkah were just some of the events we celebrated that month. Although Suicide Prevention Month was in September, the first week of November was the time that we brought awareness to the situation. The first of November displayed the tree of respect. The next day was an in-service day, so students were given a day off and were encouraged to donate for the cause. The middle of the week had all teachers wear green to symbolize mental health support, while Thursday was the day to register for the walk. Friday was the last day of Suicide Prevention Week. The students and staff were encouraged to wear the schools colors: purple and gold.

Once December rolled around, things began to change drastically. The 13th was the first day in nearly 2 years that we could be at school without wearing a mask; this was a major step in ending the pandemic. Other holidays that came to mind are Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Maple Syrup Day, and of course Christmas.

As we enter the new year, the 1st semester is about to end. However, snowstorms have been raging the past few weeks. With many days off and early dismissals, work has been hard to complete. But we have to stay focused; we are nearly done and just need that last push. Think of all the things we’ve accomplished this first half of the year; let’s finish off as well as we’ve started off.
